We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

My History

My interest in Web Design began when I began to learn HTML and to create web pages for fun in 1998, after buying my first computer.

I started with the book, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating an HTML Web Page (3rd edition)," by Paul McFedries. The book is humorous and easy to read. You can go from start to finish or skip around to specific sections of the book as needed. The book was written for beginners with no previous web design experience. The information is presented in short, easy-to-digest chunks that make building a page fun.

In November 2001, I volunteered as the webmaster for the Mifflinburg High School Boys’ Basketball Club. I was quite surprised to find that some of the other parents thought I was a web designer by trade. Thus began my initial thoughts on moving in that direction. I registered my fictitious name, Projects by Peggy and continued to "play" with web page design, doing a variety of websites. I wanted to make it a career but wasn't sure exactly how to take my hobby and make it a productive enterprise.

In June 2003, Projects by Peggy was established when I officially registered to do business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and gained my first paying client, Green Ridge Country Market. It was a start and about the extent of the business for the first year and a half. I also volunteered to do my church's website.

In 2004, I enrolled in the Web Design/Multimedia program at Westwood College Online. I worked fulltime for the first year, then transitioned to parttime. In the spring of 2006, I quit my job to establish and grow the business. A vital step, the one that really began to make things move in the right direction, was my decision to join my local chamber, the Central PA Chamber of Commerce. During the last six months of school, life became very hectic as the business continued to grow and I had more responsibility to juggle.

In December 2006, I graduated with honors from Westwood College Online with a Bachelor of Science degree in Web Design and Multimedia, earning a 3.97 GPA and recognition on the Dean's list. I was inducted into the Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society and a member and recorder of the Student Senate. In addition, I was employed by Alta Colleges as an online web design tutor from July through December 2006.

Upon graduation, in January 2007, I was able to leave college and transition into full time work as a web developer. I do freelance for local firms, as well as, continue to maintain and work with and for my clients. I will always be grateful for the support of my customers while in school. It was quite a ride and, well, I made it!
